Medullary thyroid carcinoma is a cancer that forms inside the thyroid. Around 25% of cases are inherited as part of one of three syndromes: multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2A, multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2B and familial medullary thyroid carcinoma.
Endocrine neoplasia is a condition that causes tumours to develop in the endocrine system. It may arise in isolation or as part of a genetic syndrome with an underlying inherited cause, such as multiple endocrine neoplasia.
Genomic testing in renal cancer affects clinical management of the current cancer and may affect management of the patient’s future cancer risk and that of their relatives.
Genomic testing in cerebellar haemangioblastoma or other Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome (VHL)-related tumours can help diagnose VHL and affect clinical management of the current cancer. It may also affect management of the patient’s future cancer risk and that of their relatives.
