Overview

There are 23 clinical genetics departments in the UK, each covering its own distinct geographical area.

The map below shows the main location of each department and the Trusts from which they typically take referrals and enquiries.

How to use the map

Each clinical genetics department is associated to a number of local NHS Trusts, and these are grouped into a single colour.

Each (+) mark represents a Trust. You can click on the (+) mark to see the associated genetics service’s details. The location of the regional genetics services are seen on the map via the (☆) icons, and clicking these will show which Trusts are supported by each clinical genetics department.

Accessing the appropriate department

Please note that the clinical genetics department that a patient is referred to is dependent on their GP postcode, not the Trust that they are currently being treated at. If you are unsure, please contact the department you think is appropriate and they will redirect you if necessary.

All clinical genetics departments conduct clinics at other sites within their geographical area and patients may not have to travel to the main site to see a clinical geneticist or genetic counsellor.
